Fallout 5 Unique Character: Elias “The Committee” Vane

Fallout 5 Unique Character: Elias “The Committee” Vane

Character Overview

Real Name: Elias Vane
Nickname: The Committee
Possible Role: Companion, unpredictable quest giver, recruitable settlement specialist, or recurring wildcard
Former Occupation: Behavioral scientist, stage magician, and pre-war corporate interrogator
Alignment: Constantly changing
Primary Location: The House of Arguments—an abandoned courthouse converted into a bizarre one-man settlement
Signature Phrase: “We have discussed the matter, and I remain undecided.”

Elias Vane is an eccentric wasteland wanderer whose mind has fragmented into several distinct personalities. He may rescue a group of settlers in the morning, rob their supply caravan that afternoon, and return at night to apologize—while blaming the robbery on someone he insists lives inside his skull.

He is not pretending.

Elias carries on full conversations with himself, sometimes whispering, sometimes shouting, and occasionally holding formal meetings between his personalities. He changes posture, facial expressions, speech patterns, combat tactics, clothing accessories, and moral beliefs depending on which personality is in control.

The terrifying part is that every personality believes it is protecting Elias.

Origin

Before the Great War, Elias worked for Vane Behavioral Solutions, a private contractor that developed interrogation methods, personality conditioning, and decision-making simulations for military and corporate clients.

He volunteered for an experimental device called the Moral Partition Array. The machine was designed to divide a person’s conflicting impulses into separate neural profiles. Military commanders believed it could isolate fear, compassion, aggression, loyalty, and deception—allowing soldiers to activate only the mindset required for a mission.

The experiment worked too well.

When the bombs fell, Elias was still connected to the machine. Radiation, electrical surges, experimental chemicals, and decades of neurological conditioning shattered his identity into competing personalities.

Each personality inherited a different portion of his memories, emotions, training, and moral judgment.

Elias survived inside the sealed facility for generations through experimental life-extension treatments. By the time he entered the wasteland, he could no longer remember which personality was the original.

The Personalities

Elias Vane: The Host

Elias is intelligent, nervous, polite, and deeply exhausted. He wants to be a decent person but has difficulty controlling the others.

He often pauses during conversations and quietly asks his personalities how he should respond.

Personality Traits:

  • Compassionate but indecisive

  • Afraid of losing control

  • Desperate to learn who he originally was

  • Frequently apologizes for things he does not remember doing

  • Keeps notebooks documenting his own behavior

  • Calls himself “the meeting room”

Example Dialogue:

“I would love to help you. Unfortunately, three of us believe you are lying, two want your boots, and one has proposed marriage.”

Saint: The Merciful Personality

Saint believes every life has value. He gives away supplies, protects children, frees prisoners, and refuses unnecessary violence.

Saint speaks softly and addresses almost everyone as “friend.”

However, his mercy can become dangerous. He may spare raiders who immediately attack again, release prisoners who deserve containment, or sabotage defenses because he believes weapons encourage violence.

Combat Behavior:

  • Uses nonlethal weapons when possible

  • Revives injured allies

  • Tries to force enemy surrender

  • May refuse to execute defeated opponents

  • Provides healing bonuses

Saint’s Belief:

“The wasteland is cruel because everyone keeps rehearsing cruelty.”

Mister Ash: The Violent Personality

Mister Ash believes fear is the only dependable form of order. He is aggressive, calculating, and strangely cheerful during combat.

Unlike a mindless berserker, Ash is tactical. He studies enemy weaknesses, creates ambushes, and targets leaders first.

He occasionally commits terrible acts that Elias later tries to repair.

Combat Behavior:

  • Prefers explosives, shotguns, and fire-based weapons

  • Gains damage after witnessing an ally become injured

  • Executes surrendering enemies unless stopped

  • Uses intimidation during dialogue

  • Laughs calmly rather than screaming

Mister Ash’s Belief:

“Good people build graves. Bad people make sure somebody else fills them.”

Doctor Vane: The Rational Personality

Doctor Vane considers morality an inefficient superstition. He values logic, experimentation, survival, and useful outcomes.

He may save an entire settlement because it is strategically valuable, then suggest sacrificing one resident to prevent a possible outbreak.

Doctor Vane speaks as though everyone around him is part of a research project.

Abilities:

  • Advanced medical treatment

  • Science and hacking bonuses

  • Can identify lies through behavioral analysis

  • Creates experimental chems

  • May suggest cold but effective quest solutions

Doctor Vane’s Belief:

“Kindness is not a plan. Cruelty is not a plan. Results are a plan.”

Little Eli: The Frightened Personality

Little Eli is based on Elias’s childhood memories. He is curious, frightened, imaginative, and emotionally sensitive.

When Little Eli takes control, Elias becomes physically cautious and may hide during dangerous situations. However, Little Eli notices details the other personalities overlook.

He sees patterns in graffiti, remembers forgotten passages, and can communicate with children more effectively than adults.

Abilities:

  • Detects hidden doors, traps, and secret objects

  • Improves interactions with children and animals

  • May panic during heavy combat

  • Can remember pre-war locations through childhood memories

Little Eli’s Belief:

“The monsters only move when grown-ups stop looking.”

The Magistrate: The Judge

The Magistrate believes Elias exists to impose justice. He conducts imaginary trials, delivers verdicts, and forces everyone—including the player—to defend their decisions.

He carries a broken judge’s gavel and wears part of an old courthouse robe over his armor.

His justice is rigid and sometimes absurd. He may sentence a murderer to death but also condemn a starving thief to years of forced labor.

Abilities:

  • Detects crimes committed by nearby characters

  • Provides bonuses when hunting wanted targets

  • Can interrogate prisoners

  • May temporarily refuse to cooperate with a player who repeatedly breaks promises

The Magistrate’s Belief:

“Civilization did not die. It merely lost its courtroom.”

Velvet: The Charmer

Velvet is theatrical, seductive, manipulative, and socially brilliant. Velvet may present as masculine, feminine, or deliberately ambiguous depending on the situation.

Velvet remembers Elias’s training in stage performance, persuasion, deception, and psychological manipulation.

Abilities:

  • Major bonuses to persuasion and deception

  • Gains improved vendor prices

  • Can distract enemies

  • Manipulates rival factions

  • Sometimes makes promises the other personalities refuse to honor

Velvet’s Belief:

“Truth is simply a lie that survived questioning.”

Null: The Hidden Personality

Null rarely speaks. When Null takes control, Elias becomes silent, efficient, and frighteningly focused.

Null may be the personality created by the Moral Partition Array—or the original Elias after every emotion was removed.

Null knows classified information about the experiment, the pre-war government, and several hidden facilities.

The other personalities fear Null.

Abilities:

  • Enhanced stealth

  • No emotional reactions

  • Perfect weapon discipline

  • Resistance to fear, intimidation, and mind-altering effects

  • May take control automatically when Elias is near death

Null’s Belief:

“The others are noise.”

Visual Design

Elias’s outfit visually reflects his fragmented mind.

He wears a patched pre-war suit beneath mismatched wasteland armor. Each personality adds or removes small accessories:

  • Elias: Round glasses and a battered notebook

  • Saint: White cloth tied around one arm

  • Mister Ash: Black gloves and scorched goggles

  • Doctor Vane: Medical mask and examination light

  • Little Eli: Child’s toy badge or old backpack charm

  • The Magistrate: Torn judicial sash and gavel

  • Velvet: Bright scarf, perfume atomizer, or decorative hat

  • Null: Removes all decorative items and covers his face

His idle animations change with each personality. Saint keeps his hands open and relaxed. Ash checks weapons repeatedly. Doctor Vane observes nearby people. Little Eli looks over his shoulder. The Magistrate stands upright with his hands behind his back. Velvet leans casually against objects. Null barely moves.

Unique Gameplay System: The Internal Council

Elias has a hidden Council Influence System. Player decisions strengthen specific personalities.

Compassionate actions empower Saint. Violent solutions empower Mister Ash. Scientific experimentation empowers Doctor Vane. Exploration and protecting children empower Little Eli. Lawful decisions empower the Magistrate. Deception and diplomacy empower Velvet. Ruthless efficiency empowers Null.

The most influential personality becomes more likely to take control.

The player cannot completely command Elias. Instead, the player can negotiate with his internal council.

During important moments, a special dialogue interface appears:

Internal Vote

Saint: Spare them.
Ash: Burn the building.
Doctor Vane: Question one and dissect the other.
Magistrate: Conduct a trial.
Velvet: Convince them to work for us.
Little Eli: Please leave.
Null: Eliminate the uncertainty.

The player can support one proposal, combine several approaches, or allow Elias to make the decision.

Companion Mechanics

Elias is one companion with several possible combat and support roles.

Personality Switching

A switch may occur because of:

  • Player dialogue

  • Low health

  • Chem use

  • Specific enemy types

  • Moral decisions

  • Children in danger

  • Betrayal

  • Explosions

  • Sleep deprivation

  • Visiting locations from Elias’s past

  • The player repeatedly favoring one personality

Switches can happen during conversations, exploration, or combat.

Control Options

The player may eventually unlock tools to influence personality changes:

  • A specific musical tone

  • Code phrases

  • Medication

  • Electrical stimulation

  • Hypnosis recordings

  • Certain foods or personal objects

  • Dialogue techniques learned through quests

These methods should never provide perfect control. Elias remains unpredictable.

Companion Perk: Divided We Stand

After earning Elias’s trust, the player receives Divided We Stand.

Once per combat encounter, when the player’s health falls below a critical threshold, Elias automatically switches to the personality best suited to the situation:

  • Saint heals the player.

  • Ash launches an aggressive counterattack.

  • Doctor Vane applies an experimental chem.

  • Little Eli reveals an escape route.

  • The Magistrate marks the strongest enemy as guilty.

  • Velvet convinces weaker enemies to flee.

  • Null enters a highly accurate combat state.

The outcome depends on which personalities the player has strengthened.

Main Questline: A House Divided

Quest One: “All in Favor”

The player enters an abandoned courthouse after hearing several people arguing inside. Every voice belongs to Elias.

He is conducting a trial against himself for crimes committed by Mister Ash.

The player must decide whether Elias is:

  • Guilty as one person

  • Innocent because he lacked control

  • Responsible but capable of treatment

  • Too dangerous to remain free

  • Useful enough that judgment should be postponed

The player’s answer determines which personality first trusts them.

Quest Two: “Minutes of the Meeting”

Elias asks the player to recover several recorded therapy sessions from the ruined Vane Behavioral Solutions facility.

Each recording contradicts the others. Some suggest Elias volunteered. Others imply he was forced into the experiment.

One recording features a voice identical to Null, speaking before the procedure supposedly began.

This raises a disturbing possibility: Null may be the original personality.

Quest Three: “The Good Man’s Crime”

Saint takes control and asks the player to rescue captives from a raider camp.

After the rescue, evidence reveals that Mister Ash previously armed those same raiders so they could destroy a rival gang.

Elias did not know.

The player must decide whether to tell him, conceal the truth, or use the information to manipulate one of the personalities.

Quest Four: “Seven Keys, One Door”

The Moral Partition Array can potentially recombine Elias’s personalities, but each personality holds a mental “key” required to activate it.

The player must earn cooperation from all seven.

Each personality demands a different task:

  • Saint wants someone forgiven.

  • Ash wants a dangerous enemy eliminated.

  • Doctor Vane wants experimental data.

  • Little Eli wants a childhood object recovered.

  • The Magistrate wants a criminal brought to trial.

  • Velvet wants a political deception completed.

  • Null wants access to the machine.

Final Quest: “The Last Vote”

At the Moral Partition Array, the player chooses Elias’s fate.

Ending One: Reintegration

The personalities merge into a new, more stable Elias.

He remembers every act committed by every personality. This gives him clarity—but also crushing guilt.

He becomes a skilled settlement counselor and strategist. He is no longer unpredictable, but some of his unique abilities disappear.

Ending Two: Controlled Council

The personalities remain separate but learn to communicate without constantly fighting for control.

Elias becomes healthier and more cooperative while retaining his personality-switching mechanics.

This is arguably his most hopeful ending.

Ending Three: Dominant Personality

The player selects one personality to permanently control the body.

Each choice creates a dramatically different companion or regional leader.

Saint becomes a wandering healer. Ash becomes a feared warlord. Doctor Vane builds a research colony. The Magistrate forms a harsh legal state. Velvet becomes a political power broker. Null disappears into classified ruins.

Ending Four: Complete Separation

The player uses experimental synth bodies or robotic shells to give each personality an independent physical form.

The personalities become a strange faction known as The Vane Collective.

They may cooperate, compete, or declare war on one another.

Ending Five: Null Protocol

Null seizes control of the array and deletes the other personalities.

He thanks the player for removing his restraints.

Afterward, several major faction leaders begin disappearing.

Ending Six: Destroy the Machine

The player refuses to alter Elias’s mind.

Elias remains fragmented but free. Whether this is compassion or irresponsibility depends on how unstable he has become.

Settlement Role

When assigned to a settlement, Elias can operate a unique building called the Council Chamber.

Its function changes depending on the active personality:

  • Saint runs a clinic and mediation center.

  • Ash trains settlement defenders.

  • Doctor Vane operates a research laboratory.

  • Little Eli improves hidden storage and trap detection.

  • The Magistrate reduces crime but lowers happiness.

  • Velvet improves trade and diplomacy.

  • Null strengthens security while making settlers uneasy.

Settlers begin discussing Elias as though he is several different residents.

One settler may say, “Doctor Vane fixed my arm.”

Another responds, “That isn’t Doctor Vane. That’s the lunatic who threatened our brahmin.”

Both are correct.

Random Encounters

Elias can create unpredictable wasteland events:

  • The player finds him arguing with a mirror that is not present.

  • He leaves a gift, then accuses the player of stealing it.

  • Saint secretly pays the player’s debt.

  • Ash places explosives around the camp “for emergencies.”

  • The Magistrate arrests a companion for an old crime.

  • Velvet sends romantic letters under Elias’s name.

  • Little Eli builds a blanket fort inside the player’s settlement.

  • Doctor Vane performs unauthorized medical examinations.

  • Null disappears for several days and returns with classified equipment.

Sample Companion Dialogue

Entering a Dangerous Area

Elias: “This looks unsafe.”

Ash: “It looks entertaining.”

Saint: “People may need help.”

Doctor Vane: “Statistically, they are probably already dead.”

Little Eli: “Can we go home?”

Velvet: “We have a home?”

Null: “Silence.”

Player Steals an Item

The Magistrate: “The accused has committed theft.”

Velvet: “Borrowing.”

Doctor Vane: “Resource redistribution.”

Saint: “Put it back.”

Ash: “Take the rest.”

Elias: “Could everyone please stop advising my friend to commit increasingly serious crimes?”

Player Helps a Stranger

Saint: “You did well.”

Ash: “You wasted ammunition.”

Doctor Vane: “Potential ally acquired.”

Velvet: “Potential admirer acquired.”

The Magistrate: “A lawful act.”

Little Eli: “They smiled.”

Null: “We revealed our position.”

Elias Is Dismissed

“We understand. Some of us are offended. One of us is relieved. Mister Ash has proposed burning your bed, but the motion has not passed.”

Why the Character Would Stand Out

Elias would not simply be a random character who changes moods for comedy. His personalities would alter gameplay, quests, settlement functions, combat decisions, relationships, and endings.

The player would constantly question whether Elias is:

  • A dangerous man avoiding responsibility

  • A victim of pre-war experimentation

  • Several real people sharing one body

  • A potentially powerful ally

  • A threat that should be contained

  • A person deserving patience and treatment

  • Something no longer completely human

His central conflict is not merely whether he wants to be good or evil.

It is whether a person can be held responsible when every part of his mind has a different definition of what “good” means.

This character could also anchor an entire faction storyline in which each personality secretly builds its own network of allies throughout the wasteland.

Fallout 5 Character and Faction Expansion

Elias Vane and the Vane Collective

Core Design Principle

Elias Vane is not simply “the crazy companion.”

His bipolar mood cycles, eccentric behavior, and fractured identities are separate systems that sometimes interact. His mood can influence the intensity, confidence, energy, or irritability of every personality, while his fragmented identities determine his beliefs, voice, abilities, and decisions.

He may experience:

  • Elevated energy and confidence

  • Rapid speech and ambitious planning

  • Reduced need for sleep

  • Irritability and impulsiveness

  • Depressive withdrawal

  • Exhaustion and guilt

  • Periods of relative stability

  • Identity switches caused by trauma, conditioning, or environmental triggers

The player cannot “cure” Elias by passing one speech check. His most positive outcome involves treatment, accountability, support, and cooperation between his identities.

The Vane Collective

Faction Overview

The Vane Collective is an unusual wasteland organization formed by people who were helped, manipulated, recruited, or threatened by different versions of Elias.

Most members initially believe they serve separate leaders.

One group follows Saint.

Another receives orders from Mister Ash.

A scientific cell reports to Doctor Vane.

A network of spies works for Velvet.

A group of bounty hunters obeys the Magistrate.

An unknown number of assassins receive silent instructions from Null.

None of these groups realize that their leaders share the same body.

When Elias disappears for several days, he may be traveling between these organizations, changing clothing, altering his voice, and issuing contradictory commands.

The Collective becomes increasingly unstable as the personalities compete for influence.

Major Branches of the Collective

The Open Hands

Leader: Saint
Purpose: Medicine, rescue, food distribution, prisoner protection, and conflict mediation
Headquarters: Mercy Station, an abandoned emergency shelter

The Open Hands believe Elias is a traveling preacher and physician known as Brother Vane.

They provide:

  • Medical care

  • Refugee transport

  • Emergency food

  • Addiction treatment

  • Mediation between settlements

  • Protection for displaced children

  • Burial services for unidentified wastelanders

Their weakness is that they sometimes protect dangerous people without adequate security.

Saint believes nobody should be permanently defined by their worst action.

The Cinder Company

Leader: Mister Ash
Purpose: Mercenary warfare, intimidation, sabotage, and preemptive attacks
Headquarters: The Burnyard, a ruined industrial furnace complex

The Cinder Company believes Ash Vane is a former military commander.

They specialize in:

  • Controlled demolitions

  • Heavy weapons

  • Urban ambushes

  • Caravan protection

  • Raider extermination

  • Psychological warfare

  • Retaliatory attacks

Ash secretly uses the Cinder Company to eliminate threats that Saint refuses to confront.

The Cinder Company respects strength, but its members are not mindless raiders. They follow strict battlefield rules established by Ash:

  1. Never waste ammunition on the defenseless.

  2. Never torture without strategic purpose.

  3. Never abandon a contracted settlement.

  4. Never allow betrayal to go unanswered.

  5. Never confuse mercy with safety.

The Rational Assembly

Leader: Doctor Vane
Purpose: Medical research, technology recovery, behavioral experimentation, and survival planning
Headquarters: The Annex, a restored underground research facility

The Rational Assembly consists of:

  • Scientists

  • Doctors

  • Engineers

  • Former Vault personnel

  • Synth researchers

  • Roboticists

  • Chemists

  • Data archivists

Doctor Vane views the wasteland as a failed experiment that can still be corrected.

The Assembly develops:

  • Radiation treatments

  • Experimental prosthetics

  • Crop-growth compounds

  • Neural stabilizers

  • Behavioral prediction software

  • Combat stimulants

  • Settlement efficiency systems

  • Personality-conditioning technology

Their research can improve thousands of lives, but Doctor Vane has few ethical limits.

The Court of Dust

Leader: The Magistrate
Purpose: Law enforcement, criminal trials, bounty hunting, and regional arbitration
Headquarters: The House of Arguments

The Court of Dust attempts to create a legal system without a recognized government.

Its members include:

  • Traveling judges

  • Bounty hunters

  • Investigators

  • Record keepers

  • Former caravan guards

  • Reformed criminals

  • Settlement representatives

The Magistrate keeps detailed records of crimes, contracts, debts, and unresolved disputes.

The Court’s laws can bring stability, but its punishments may become severe.

Possible sentences include:

  • Restitution

  • Forced labor

  • Exile

  • Public service

  • Settlement confinement

  • Trial by combat

  • Execution

  • Memory alteration through experimental technology

The Velvet Network

Leader: Velvet
Purpose: Espionage, diplomacy, information brokering, blackmail, and political manipulation
Headquarters: The Parlor, a hidden lounge beneath an old theater

The Velvet Network operates through:

  • Performers

  • Bartenders

  • Couriers

  • Prostitutes

  • Traveling merchants

  • Political aides

  • Gamblers

  • Radio hosts

  • Disgraced faction officials

Velvet rarely orders direct violence. Instead, the Network destroys reputations, exposes secrets, manufactures alliances, and creates controlled scandals.

Velvet believes the strongest weapon in the wasteland is not a gun.

It is the right truth delivered to the wrong person.

The Quiet Ledger

Leader: Null
Purpose: Unknown
Headquarters: Unknown

The Quiet Ledger has no uniforms, banners, or public members.

Its operatives may be hidden inside every branch of the Collective.

Known activities include:

  • Removing compromised agents

  • Recovering classified technology

  • Eliminating witnesses

  • Erasing records

  • Replacing faction leaders

  • Infiltrating military organizations

  • Monitoring Elias himself

The player may eventually discover that Null created the Quiet Ledger before Elias met them.

This suggests Null has been planning independently for years.

Elias’s Bipolar Mood-State System

Mood states operate separately from personality switching.

Stable State

Elias is relatively balanced, observant, and cooperative.

Effects:

  • More predictable personality changes

  • Better accuracy

  • Improved dialogue stability

  • Reduced internal conflict

  • More reliable companion commands

Elevated State

Elias becomes energetic, confident, creative, and extremely talkative.

Effects:

  • Faster movement

  • Faster crafting

  • Increased persuasion

  • Increased initiative in combat

  • More ambitious settlement projects

  • Higher chance of impulsive actions

  • Reduced sleep

  • Increased chance of starting unauthorized quests

He may promise to build a hospital, overthrow a faction, write a constitution, and develop a new power grid in the same conversation.

Some plans are brilliant.

Others are impossible.

Irritable Elevated State

His energy remains high, but confidence turns into agitation and hostility.

Effects:

  • Increased damage

  • Reduced patience

  • More aggressive dialogue

  • Greater chance of Ash or the Magistrate taking control

  • Possible refusal to retreat

  • Increased conflict with companions

Depressive State

Elias becomes withdrawn, tired, doubtful, and burdened by guilt.

Effects:

  • Reduced movement speed

  • Slower reaction time

  • Lower persuasion

  • Reduced companion initiative

  • Increased empathy dialogue

  • Greater chance of Saint or Little Eli appearing

  • Possible refusal to leave camp

  • Unique conversations about responsibility and identity

The player can support Elias, ignore him, exploit him, or pressure him.

Aggressive pressure may temporarily force him into action but damage trust.

Mixed State

Elias experiences high energy alongside despair, fear, anger, or self-destructive thinking.

This is his most unpredictable condition.

Effects:

  • Rapid personality switching

  • Conflicting combat orders

  • Increased critical chance

  • Reduced defense

  • Unplanned travel

  • Destructive crafting

  • Sudden faction decisions

  • Emergency companion scenes

A mixed state can trigger unique quests and dangerous internal votes.

Companion Affinity System

Each personality tracks a separate relationship with the player.

The player may be trusted by Saint but hated by Ash.

Velvet may admire the player while the Magistrate considers them a criminal.

Null may respect the player’s effectiveness without caring about them personally.

Unique Affinity Consequences

Affinity is not a single morality meter.

A player can become:

  • Saint’s Redeemer

  • Ash’s War Brother

  • Doctor Vane’s Research Partner

  • Little Eli’s Protector

  • The Magistrate’s Deputy

  • Velvet’s Confidant

  • Null’s Recognized Asset

Each title unlocks different perks, dialogue, quests, and endings.

It is possible to gain the trust of all identities, but doing so requires the player to demonstrate flexibility without becoming completely dishonest.

Expanded Questline

Quest 1: All in Favor

The player enters the House of Arguments and discovers Elias placing himself on trial.

Mister Ash is accused of destroying a caravan carrying medical supplies.

Saint demands confession.

Ash claims the caravan was secretly transporting weapons to raiders.

The Magistrate demands evidence.

Doctor Vane wants the player to examine the remains.

Velvet suggests blaming a rival faction.

Null says nothing.

Possible Findings

The caravan carried both medicine and weapons.

Its owners planned to supply a settlement while secretly arming a gang that controlled the area.

No personality possesses the entire truth.

The player’s judgment establishes the first major alignment inside Elias’s mind.

Quest 2: The Other Employer

Several settlements claim Elias accepted jobs from them simultaneously.

The player discovers that different personalities have created overlapping contracts.

Examples:

  • Saint promised to protect refugees.

  • Ash agreed to destroy the refugees’ pursuers.

  • The Magistrate agreed to arrest one refugee leader.

  • Velvet promised that same leader political asylum.

  • Doctor Vane wants to examine the group for contamination.

The player must reconcile or prioritize the agreements.

Possible outcomes include:

  • Fulfill every contract through careful planning

  • Break selected contracts

  • Expose Elias’s condition

  • Continue the deception

  • Allow the identities to vote

Quest 3: A Child’s Map

Little Eli reveals a hand-drawn map from Elias’s childhood.

It leads to:

  • A pre-war family home

  • A buried time capsule

  • An abandoned school

  • A hidden Vane Behavioral Solutions entrance

  • A room containing childhood recordings

The player learns Elias’s father may have volunteered him for early behavioral experiments.

Little Eli asks the player not to show the recordings to the other personalities.

The player can:

  • Keep the secret

  • Reveal it to Elias

  • Give it to Doctor Vane

  • Let Velvet weaponize it

  • Allow Null to destroy it

Quest 4: Cinders at Mercy Station

The Cinder Company attacks a group Saint ordered the Open Hands to protect.

Ash claims the protected group contains infiltrators planning a massacre.

Saint believes Ash fabricated the threat.

The player must investigate before the two branches go to war.

The threat is real, but only a few refugees are involved.

Possible solutions:

  • Identify the infiltrators

  • Evacuate the innocent

  • Let Ash destroy the entire camp

  • Allow Saint to negotiate

  • Secretly replace the infiltrators with Velvet’s agents

  • Turn the infiltrators over to the Magistrate

Quest 5: The Unethical Cure

Doctor Vane creates a neural stabilizer that can reduce involuntary switching.

The treatment requires biological material taken from unwilling experimental subjects.

Saint rejects it.

Ash supports it because stability makes Elias more dangerous and effective.

The Magistrate demands a trial.

Velvet wants to sell the formula.

Null quietly alters the research.

The player may:

  • Destroy the treatment

  • Complete it ethically through harder research

  • Use the original process

  • Test it on Elias

  • Sell it to another faction

  • Discover that Null inserted a control mechanism

Quest 6: The Trial of the Player

The Magistrate puts the player on trial based on their previous actions.

The charges are generated dynamically.

Possible charges include:

  • Theft

  • Murder

  • Contract violation

  • Deception

  • Reckless endangerment

  • Faction betrayal

  • Unauthorized experimentation

  • Destruction of public property

The player can defend themselves through:

  • Evidence

  • Witness testimony

  • Bribery

  • Intimidation

  • Legal argument

  • Confession

  • Trial by combat

  • Manipulating another personality

The verdict permanently affects the Court of Dust.

Quest 7: Velvet’s Perfect Lie

Velvet has spent years constructing a fictional political figure named Adrian Vane.

Settlements believe Adrian is a wealthy diplomat capable of unifying the region.

There is no Adrian.

Velvet plans to have Elias impersonate him and become the leader of a new government.

The player can:

  • Support the deception

  • Expose it

  • Replace Elias with another figure

  • Turn Adrian into a symbolic identity

  • Use a synth as Adrian

  • Force Velvet to reveal the truth gradually

Quest 8: The Missing Days

Elias loses seven days of memory.

During that period:

  • A faction leader disappeared

  • A military base was infiltrated

  • The Quiet Ledger acquired launch codes

  • Several witnesses were killed

  • Elias returned with a wound he cannot explain

Null refuses to communicate.

The player investigates Elias’s movements and discovers hidden instructions written in a cipher.

The player may learn that Null is preparing for an event called the Unification.

Quest 9: Seven Keys, One Door

Each personality controls a psychological key required to access the Moral Partition Array.

The player must complete one personal objective for every identity.

Saint’s Key: Forgiveness

Convince a victim to confront someone Saint spared.

Ash’s Key: Necessary Violence

Eliminate or neutralize a warlord who repeatedly exploits mercy.

Doctor Vane’s Key: Proof

Recover the original experiment data.

Little Eli’s Key: Safety

Return to Elias’s childhood home and create one memory not based on fear.

Magistrate’s Key: Accountability

Place Elias on trial before an independent court.

Velvet’s Key: Truth

Force Velvet to reveal one secret without manipulating the consequences.

Null’s Key: Silence

Enter a classified facility without alerting or killing anyone.

Final Quest: The Last Vote

The identities debate their future inside a simulated courtroom generated by the Moral Partition Array.

The player physically enters Elias’s mental simulation through neural technology.

Each personality occupies a different environment:

  • Saint resides in a ruined hospital.

  • Ash waits in a burning battlefield.

  • Doctor Vane controls a sterile laboratory.

  • Little Eli hides inside a childhood home.

  • The Magistrate presides over an endless courtroom.

  • Velvet performs on a theater stage.

  • Null stands inside a featureless black chamber.

  • Elias remains trapped in the central hallway.

The player must determine whether Elias is one person, several people, or something entirely new.

Expanded Endings

Ending: Cooperative Multiplicity

The identities remain distinct but agree to a formal system of shared control.

They establish:

  • Scheduled control periods

  • Emergency switching rules

  • Shared memory records

  • Internal voting procedures

  • Restrictions on unilateral violence

  • Treatment for mood instability

  • External accountability

Elias becomes a highly capable but still unusual companion.

This ending preserves the complete gameplay system.

Ending: Reintegration

The identities merge.

The resulting Elias possesses all memories and skills but no longer hears separate voices.

He becomes quieter and more emotionally complex.

He may say:

“I thought silence would feel peaceful. I did not realize how much it would feel like mourning.”

Ending: The Chosen Voice

One personality becomes permanent.

Each version creates a unique regional outcome.

Saint Dominant

The Collective becomes a humanitarian organization.

Ending: The Vane Collective Made Physical

The personalities are transferred into:

  • Synth bodies

  • Robotic platforms

  • Cloned vessels

  • Experimental biomechanical shells

Each becomes an individual person.

However, separation creates a new question: who owns Elias’s original memories, property, relationships, and crimes?

The resulting faction can remain united or collapse into civil war.

Ending: Total Collapse

The player repeatedly exploits Elias, encourages conflict, and refuses treatment.

His identities lose the ability to cooperate.

Each branch of the Collective receives contradictory orders.

A regional faction war begins.

The player must decide which identity-led branch survives.

Special Random Events

The Unauthorized Wedding

Velvet arranges a political marriage under Elias’s name.

Elias wakes up engaged to a faction representative he has never met.

The player can help cancel, continue, or manipulate the arrangement.

The Midnight Fortress

During an elevated state, Elias builds an elaborate defensive structure overnight.

It may be brilliant, dangerous, or both.

The Apology Tour

After a depressive episode, Elias attempts to apologize to everyone harmed by his personalities.

Some people forgive him.

Others demand payment, punishment, or revenge.

The Eighth Voice

Elias begins responding to a personality none of the others recognize.

The voice may be:

  • A new identity

  • A transmitted signal

  • An artificial intelligence

  • A surviving researcher

  • A hallucination

  • The player’s own neural imprint

The Empty Chair

Elias always leaves one chair empty during Council meetings.

When asked who it belongs to, every personality gives a different answer.

Null says:

“It is for the one who leaves.”

Companion Command Interface

Instead of ordinary commands, the player can open the Internal Council menu.

General Commands

  • Follow

  • Wait

  • Retreat

  • Attack

  • Avoid combat

  • Search area

  • Heal ally

  • Use personality ability

  • Request internal vote

  • Attempt personality switch

  • Review Council status

Personality Requests

The player can ask a personality to take control, but the request may be:

  • Accepted

  • Rejected

  • Negotiated

  • Delayed

  • Overruled

  • Sabotaged by another identity

High trust improves cooperation.

Low trust makes the personalities less predictable.

Personality Transition Presentation

Transitions should not always use dramatic effects.

Subtle switches are more unsettling.

Possible transition indicators:

  • Posture changes

  • Different breathing rhythm

  • Eye movement

  • Change in vocabulary

  • Removal of an accessory

  • Hand tremor stopping

  • Sudden silence

  • Different weapon choice

  • Voice cadence alteration

  • New idle animation

The player should sometimes realize a switch occurred only after Elias says or does something inconsistent.

Long-Term Regional Consequences

Elias’s story can affect the entire game world.

Depending on the player’s choices, the Vane Collective may become:

  • A humanitarian coalition

  • A military protectorate

  • A scientific technocracy

  • A legal federation

  • An intelligence network

  • A covert authoritarian regime

  • Several competing factions

  • A model for cooperative settlement government

Radio broadcasts, settlement dialogue, faction patrols, random encounters, prices, security, crime, and regional politics change according to the final outcome.

Final Character Theme

Elias’s central question is not:

“Is he good or evil?”

It is:

“Who is responsible when several conflicting minds share one history, one body, and one set of consequences?”

The player cannot determine Elias’s future through a simple morality choice.

They must decide whether to:

  • Support him

  • Control him

  • Exploit him

  • Judge him

  • Separate him

  • Reintegrate him

  • Fear him

  • Trust him

  • Help him establish accountability

  • Allow one voice to silence all the others

Elias Vane can become one of Fallout 5’s most unpredictable companions, but also one of its most human.
